The New Dog Has Learned to Talk

My son came to me looking perplexed today. He screwed up his face and made weird growling, doglike sounds. “Joy (new dog) did this just now,” he was smiling as he said it. He said he asked her what she wanted? Was she trying to talk? Then she looked at the door and he got up and opened it for her.

I told him she did that to me all the time. She’ll come find me and then stand there making noises that are varied in pitch and sound as if she thinks she’s saying words. That’s when I get up and mention “Is Timmy in the well again?” and follow her. I asked if he hadn’t heard me asking her that? (I am referring to the old TV show “Lassie”). (He’d heard. He just assumed I was being strange, like people my age sometimes are perceived.) Anyway, I follow her continuing to chatter about Timmy and the well and she shows me what she wants.

I guess she thought if I could understand her speech, he could. Turns out, she was right.

About msplayful

I am someone who finds life humorous and often share my views with friends and co-workers. Since I've been told I should be a stand-up comedian, I thought I'd see how well I could do at writing funny things that happen, or that happen in my head.
